When I lived in Tulsa, Oklahoma, there was a sweet little strip of shops called Utica Square. It was the same square where my favorite coffee shop of all time was, so if you couldn’t tell already, I love this little square. When the weather warmed up, and you could tell spring was coming, this sweet little vintage Volkswagen would be in the square selling flowers, and the company was named the Gas Petal! You could go up and pick the flowers you wanted and make a sweet custom bouquet. All different kinds and in season, and if you didn’t know what went together, their staff would combine the most beautiful pairings and make you feel like you had just picked them yourself! My favorite flowers to look for were Dahlia, Roses, Chamomile, Carnation, and Marigolds. The yellows, oranges, and whites combined with a bit of greenery were so vibrant, and it blended my favorite season, fall, with spring.
Looking at a bouquet with all the flowers having unique petals, shapes, and colors, you can admire how each one was created with precise detail. I’ve never grown my own garden, but if I did, I’d want it to be full of yellows to brighten my front or backyard. I’ve been working on some smaller plants inside my apartment and buying roses every once in a while, and with those, I can’t forget to water, so I’ll count them as my garden for now. While enjoying spring and thinking about flowers, it made me think about how God puts different passions in our lives, and they bloom in other seasons, and they each have a purpose in our lives. Each is planted to inspire and enhance our journey and walk with Him and others around us.
I love working with kids, and I know it will always be a part of my life.
I love writing, and it started with journaling. It is also a part of my life but in a new way.
I love connecting with girls who have disabilities, and that comes from living it personally. I desire to share God through that part of my life.
Recently, I’ve been enjoying hosting events like bridal showers, baby showers, women’s events, and girls’ nights at my house. Hosting is a new enjoyment I’ve been learning, even if it’s not consistent, but when it comes up, I love it.
Each one of these passions is a flower in my garden. Some are consistent and bloom year-round, and some only come in different seasons of life. I’m still learning to see if it will last in my garden; some will grow, and some will fade. Some need more attention and pruning, and others only need to stay hydrated. Some are so deeply rooted in me that I can’t imagine life without them, but starting new roots is healthier to continue that growth.
For example, EmbracedBravery is a blog, but adding videos will add a new following for my readers. It is a rooted passion that became a passion that grew past the dirt and bloomed into something I want to expand. These small dreams can become blooming dreams that go past your flowerbeds.
So I’m asking you, readers. What are you growing in your own garden? Have you ever thought about your passions blossoming into more than just a talked about dream? Are you taking care of the seeds God has planted inside you that you might share with someone one day? I love the scripture about the mustard seed because when we have faith in something that seems so small, God can take that faith and make it into something we could never have planned for.
“31 He put another parable before them, saying, “The kingdom of heaven is like a grain of mustard seed that a man took and sowed in his field. 32 It is the smallest of all seeds, but when it has grown, it is larger than all the garden plants and becomes a tree so that the birds of the air come and make nests in its branches.” Matthew 13:31-32.
God started the garden and has entrusted us to trust in its growth. He has given each one of us a purpose and plan to sow the seeds. He gave you the heart and desire to go after what you love, so plant the mustard seed of faith and grow your own garden.
