When I visit my extended family in Texas, one of my favorite places is Waco, Texas, where Magnolia Market is. The atmosphere is so cute, and there are plenty of things to do. Rolling around Magnolia, there is something for everyone, especially around the holidays. The bakery has the most delicious cupcakes and desserts, and the assortment of shops can help everyone find something they can take home and enjoy. One of my favorite shops is her paper store. It’s filled with journals, writing materials, and little nick-nacks that you can style in your office. Can you tell why I like it? One year, we went into the shop, and on the shelves, I saw spools of velvet ribbon. All different colors, but the golden tint of the smooth golden velvet caught my eye, and I immediately knew I wanted one. The ribbon is so diverse you can wrap gifts with them, make bows and tie them to ornaments, or make it an ornament it an ornament in itself. I saved this ribbon spool but knew I wanted to use it for my holiday hat or a long bow for tying in my hair. The color, texture, and fun of trying a different style was exciting!
As I pull out my holiday sweaters and prepare for fun festivities, I am always looking for the bow I made to wear again. I feel so extra nice and luxurious when I wear velvet. The little things we care about bring out a softness and carefreeness we often put to the side when busy with regular life. When we have breaks like Thanksgiving or Christmas, we start thinking again of the little joys and pleasures we don’t typically have time for in our everyday lives, like golden velvet bows. I encourage you to do this as you begin to wrap up your weekly regular schedule. What can you add to your everyday life to make it more unique? Something that only you notice or will know that others may not catch, but it means something to you. My velvet bow is always something I look forward to when November rolls around because it’s like my little entry to start thinking about holiday fun. One of my traditions is to make a hot cocoa station by my coffee bar because that symbolizes the little bit of joy I can enjoy on a chilly night or share with friends when they come over.
My post today isn’t empowering or about special needs, but instead about the beauty of embracing the little things in life and taking intentional time to incorporate those things into our daily lives.
What is your golden velvet?
